New hair salon opens at Auden House

Affordable housing provider 54North Homes’ residents living at Auden House Extra Care scheme in York are now able to get their hair styled onsite without having to travel far.

A room which has stood empty for two years has been brought back into use as a hair salon and is welcoming residents and the general public to book an appointment.

Cabelo Hair Salon has been set up by Lisa Heppell who has refurbished the room and bought all the furniture, including three styling chairs.

Lisa, who lives in Poppleton, has been a hair stylist for over 40 years and was working at another salon nearby where she rented a chair and welcomed regular customers. She contacted Fae Hamilton, the scheme manager at Auden House to enquire about setting up her own salon and hasn’t looked back.

Lisa said, “This is a great opportunity for me to run my own salon and to offer a hairdressing service not only to the residents living here but also the general public so this is a dream come true. I’m very grateful to Fae who has been very accommodating. I just wanted to give back to the local community and anyone is welcome to walk in and make an appointment.”

Fae Hamilton, Scheme Manager at Auden House, said: “It’s lovely to welcome Lisa and provide a hairdressing service to our residents but also the wider public. It encourages the public to come and visit and use some of the other facilities available including our restaurant. It’s brought an empty room back into use and it’s good to see Lisa getting some regular customers already.”

The wheelchair accessible salon is open daily including weekends and appointments can be made in person or by calling 07828642617.

Auden House Extra Care scheme is managed by 54North Homes and provides high quality living accommodation for people aged 55 and over. The scheme comprises 41 two-bedroom flats enabling residents to live independently in a spacious, modern home with the reassurance that care and support is available should you need it.

Residents benefit from a range of communal facilities/services, including a lift, lounge, restaurant, laundry facilities, beautifully maintained garden, hairdressing salon and guest facilities.
