York customers blooming after double award success

54North Homes Managing Director Mark Pearson visited David and Sandra Wreglesworth’s home at Margaret Philipson Court in York to present them with vouchers and two beautiful glass engraved trophies for winning the ‘Best Baskets’ and ‘Best Overall Winner’ categories.

It’s the third consecutive year the couple have won the Best Baskets category and they are delighted to be rewarded and recognised for their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

David said: “It was a lovely surprise when Mark came to visit and told us that we had won not one but two awards. Sandra and I enjoy spending time in the garden and maintaining and caring for the baskets, it’s such a beautiful display and it not only gives us pleasure when looking out of our windows but also our neighbours who have commented how it has brightened up their view too.”

During the summer, David and Sandra enjoy spending time in the garden and being outdoors and will spend up to three hours per day in the garden watering and dead heading the flowers and checking every pot for snail trails. They start preparing the baskets and containers in May and said when looked after carefully, they will be in full bloom in July.

Sandra commented: “Every year, we just keep adding to our plants. We don’t have room for a greenhouse so we have to buy them in so these vouchers will come in very handy towards this year’s collection.

“Petunia’s always give a good show and Begonia’s produce a fantastic colourful display. Geraniums give height so these are the plants we buy each year. The key to success if to feed them and give them plenty of water. We water the plants every day, even if it has rained and we spend a lot of time dead-heading the plants to encourage new growth.”

Now, David and Sandra are encouraging other 54North Homes customers to enter the popular gardening competition, which also includes categories such as best first-time entrant and best children’s garden.

Mark Pearson said: “We’ve seen some fantastic entries in this competition over the years and David and Sandra continue to demonstrate their love for gardening. It’s wonderful to see customers taking pride in their gardens and I enjoy hearing all the positive stories that gardening brings to people.

“I am proud to present not just one but two awards including the Best Overall Winner category. I hope this encourages and inspires other customers to enter our In Bloom gardening competition and I look forward seeing some beautiful 54North Homes gardens this year.”
