Extra housing support when you need it most

Extra housing support when you need it most

The Intensive Housing Management Service, also known as Floating Housing Support, is available for customers in the City of York Council area.

Ruth is one of 54North’s Tenancy Sustainment Officers and explains how she aims to build rapport with customers and take a holistic support approach:

The service is for customers when it is felt that they may require some extra support with housing related issues and is paid via a small increase in rent. Support is roughly one hour a week although there is some flexibility and as a general rule can last up to two years.

Support can look very different for different customers and can include areas such as:

· reporting repairs

· applying for benefits

· referral for support around debts

· appropriate referrals to other services such as Falls Prevention

· exploring options for accessing household essentials

· support in setting up and managing household bills

· support with new tenancies

· support in budgeting

· referrals to activities which promote wellbeing

· support in accessing health services

· support around hoarding

· support with opening and understanding mail and making phone calls

· motivating and practical support in order to improve living conditions

· support with applications to the CYC Open Housing Portal and Homeswapper

If you think you could benefit from this type of support, please speak to your Housing Officer and they can give you more information, details about how the service can be accessed and when the next drop-in appointments are.
