The true cost of fly-tipping

Fly tipping is a growing problem that affects our communities and has knock on effects to the services we are able to provide.  

Last year, we spent approximately £144,000 dealing with waste-related issues, including the removal and disposal of illegally dumped rubbish on our land. 

The cost of removing and disposing of this waste also has a wider impact, taking valuable resources away from other priority work that could be invested in improving your homes, services and communities. 

As well as making neighbourhoods look untidy, fly tipped waste can create health and safety risks, attract pests and cause damage to the local environment. 

Fly-tipping offenders can be fined up to £50,000 and jailed up to one year. We recognise it is a community wide issue and are working closely with local authorities to tackle the issue.  

If you see someone dumping waste illegally, please report it to us straight away. Your information can help us take action against those responsible and allow us to focus more on our areas of priority instead.

Donating reusable items to charity is often the quickest and most environmentally friendly way to get rid of your unwanted items. Many charities often collect larger, reusable items from your home for free.
