54North Homes is proud to be supporting Discover Housing, a national campaign led by Positive Footprints aiming to inspire 10,000 children to see a future in housing.
Discover Housing aims to bring together 100 housing partners and 100 primary schools across the country, to create meaningful connections between the sector and the next generation. It builds on Positive Footprints’ long-standing work in aspirations-led learning, which supported more than 11,500 children in 2024/25, generating over £7 million in social value. Discover Housing takes that impact even further by shining a light on the diverse, rewarding careers in housing that help communities thrive.
At 54North, we have continued to provide funding to Positive Footprints to engage with local primary schools to raise aspirations. They create opportunities for children and young people to discover their potential, explore the world of work and develop the skills they need for the future.
Last year, our funding helped to engage eight local primary schools which saw 333 children and young people engage and be impacted. The schools rate the impact of the partnership and associated activity very highly.
90 hours of learning have been delivered with pupils engaging in an average of 10 hours of careers-led learning with different businesses and local organisations. Last year, our partnership also created £64,808 of social value.
Gavin Fisk, Director of Customer Experience at 54North Homes, said: “This is a fantastic initiative and we believe that every child deserves the chance to dream big and see a future full of possibilities. By acting early, we can inspire the next generation of leaders and change‑makers in our neighbourhoods and workplaces.
“Our core purpose is about ‘building homes, changing lives’ and the housing sector provides great work opportunities. By supporting Positive Futures to work in eight local schools in the communities where we operate and hopefully, we can inspiring the next generation and provide a positive impact on the children and young people that may live in our homes.”
Housing is about people, places, and opportunities, and yet many children grow up without ever hearing about the roles that shape the neighbourhoods around them. Throughout the campaign, Discover Housing will be supporting the pupils living in our communities allowing them to meet people working across the housing sector, hear real stories about the work we do, and take part in activities that help them imagine what their own futures could look like. It’s a simple idea with powerful potential: the earlier children are exposed to new ideas, the more confidently they can explore who they might become.
Discover Housing recognises that children begin forming ideas about careers far earlier than most people realise. By the age of seven, many have already started ruling things in or out based on the people they know or the stereotypes they’ve absorbed. When children meet real professionals, hear their stories, and see the human side of an industry, it becomes easier for them to picture themselves in those roles.
The work delivered by Positive Footprints is about more than careers. It’s about confidence, aspiration, and giving children the chance to see possibilities they may never have encountered otherwise. It’s also about strengthening communities. A warm, safe home is the foundation of a healthy, happy life, and the people who work in housing play a vital role in creating those foundations.
We’re excited to be part of this journey with Positive Footprints and other organisations across the sector. Together, we can help children discover their strengths, build their self-belief, and see housing as a place where they can make a difference.
