Karbon Homes Group wins Homebuilder of the Year

The Karbon Homes Group has been named Homebuilder of the Year at this year's Northern Housing Awards, celebrating a record delivery of new affordable homes across the North East and Yorkshire in 2024/2025.

As a member of the Group, alongside delivering ongoing housing management services for customers of our partner company Karbon Homes across Yorkshire, at 54North we developed 158 of the 707 homes, a fantastic year for our development delivery team.

Nearly a quarter (22%) of the Group's homes were built using modern methods of construction, such as light gauge steel and timber frame and close to half (44%) of homes achieved EPC A, with the remaining all achieving a B rating.

This included the completion of our flagship scheme Leonora House in Leeds city centre, providing 58 high-quality apartments for social rent.

Named after the celebrated local suffragette, Leonora Cohen OBE (1873-1978), the scheme is on Railway Street near the city centre. Our £12m development comprises of 28 one-bedroom, 25 two-bedroom and five three-bedroom apartments. Leonora House’s exterior is a subtle patchwork of three different types of brick, intended to symbolise the textile industry. Each floor has its own dementia-friendly colour scheme so residents can recognise where they are. The development also boasts charging points for electric vehicles and solar panels on the roof.

Winning Homebuilder of the Year Award recognises the Group's commitment to tackling the UK’s housing crisis with the provision of high quality, affordable and environmentally sound new homes and building thriving communities around them.

The Northern Housing Awards event is held annually and this year we celebrated in Manchester.
