Less mowing, more growing

Less mowing, more growing

As part of our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and supporting local biodiversity, we will once again reduce grass cutting in selected open spaces across our Leeds estates this year.

Our successful pilot introduced in May last year identified key areas where grass will benefit the environment when left to grow wild throughout the summer into meadow-style spaces. These grassy spaces will support pollinators such as bees and insects, along with birds and small animals like hedgehogs.

We care about the environment and want to support local communities to protect it for future generations. Our approach aligns with initiatives such as No Mow May, a national campaign encouraging people to let grass and wildflowers grow freely to support nature. Even small patches of longer grass can provide valuable food and habitats.

More information, can be found here www.plantlife.org.uk/campaigns/nomowmay/

We understand that the changes introduced may take some getting used to, but they are designed to deliver long-term benefits for our communities and the environment.

Please be reassured that this will not affect the way that we maintain open plan gardens and smaller open spaces which will continue to be cut approximately every two weeks between April and October (weather permitting).

If you have any questions about grass cutting or how we manage our green spaces, please get in touch:

We will continue to review the outcomes of this approach and keep you updated on how this shapes the future management of our estates.
