54North Homes strives to keep the communal gardening areas where you live in excellent order.

We provide a grounds maintenance service for schemes with communal gardens/shared external areas. However, customers are responsible for looking after their own private gardens and keeping them in a clean, safe and tidy condition.

We would also ask that any unwanted items, such as fridges, sofas etc. are not left out in the garden or on an estate, but are disposed of correctly. Most councils will take away large items for a fee, and you will need to contact your local authority. If you are not in a position to do this, please contact your Housing Officer, who will be happy to give you more advice.

Should you have any comments or suggestions regarding the maintenance of the external shared areas where you live, please contact 54North Homes by email: hello@54northhomes.co.uk or phone 0345 521 1993 and ask to speak to your Housing Officer.

What you can expect from our gardening services
  • Staff will carry proof of identity whilst on site

  • Paths, car parks and kerbs will be swept and kept clear of litter, debris etc.

  • Leaf clearing at the end of the growing season

  • Grass cutting every two weeks during April – October

  • Hedges will be trimmed twice a year

N.B. Trees within our communal areas are surveyed for risk every three years and any risks identified are actioned. However, 54North Homes will not undertake tree works that legally do not need to be completed and would distract or detach a tree management company away from priority works or impact the budget to carry out other risk-based tree works. These works include tree or canopy management due to a lack of light to a home or the distribution of leaf litter causing concern rather than a hazard for a resident/occupier.

Changes to grass cutting services on some of our estates

As part of our plans to both reduce our carbon footprint and boost the biodiversity of our green spaces, we're changing the number of cuts.

We have identified key areas across our estates in Leeds where we will be leaving areas of grass to grow into meadow land and we’ll be sowing wildflower seeds.

We’ll be starting a pilot project in May 2025 where we will be leaving these small areas of grass to grow throughout the summer, rather than cutting them.

The leaflet below provides you with further information but if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us or speak to your housing officer.
